They say some people are born with amazing musical gifts and that some work their whole lives to
develop and perfect them. Bobby Harris is both. He is anointed in the truest sense of the word and yet
has drive and dedication to his musical craft to rival the greats.
Born October 6, 1966 in Harrodsburg Kentucky, Bobby Dale Harris showed musical promise at the
ripe old age of 3 when he began playing the organ. A mere three years later he would sing his first
solo, “Jesus Loves Me” and go on to begin training for church musicianship by age 8 at The Historical
Saint Peters African Methodist Episcopal Church in Harrodsburg Kentucky under the music leadership
of the late Mrs. Georgia Biggers. It was clear to anyone who met and heard this young man that his
talents were truly “God-given”! By age 12, with rare youthful maturity in recognizing the source of
his talents as well as his spiritual gift, Bobby gave his life to God and accepted Jesus Christ as his
personal Lord and Savior under the pastoral-ship of the late Rev. James E. Newell. With the
Holy Spirit at the helm, Bobby embarked on a lifelong musical journey that would guide him through
adolescence into adulthood and beyond.
In 1990, at age 24, Bobby answered the Spirit’s call to accept a full-time Minister of Music responsibility
at Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond, Kentucky. It was there, Bobby reaffirmed his faith
under the pastoral-ship of the late Byron “BJ” Jesse Parks in 2000 and one year later June 17, 2001
accepted his call to preach the Gospel.
Following the Holy Spirit, Bobby was led home to Centennial Baptist Church where he presided as
Assistant Pastor to the church under-shepherd, Pastor John Dunbar Short III as well as the Minister of
Music from 2001 to 2011. Bobby currently serves as part time Minister of Music at Saint Paul African
Methodist Episcopal Church, Richmond, Kentucky and Johnsons Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Springfield, Kentucky.
Throughout his 47 years, Bobby has guided, molded and directed countless choirs, both adult and children and played as personal musician for many local anointed artists. Whether it’s teaching piano lessons or lending his talents to vocal coaching, Bobby is consistently sharing his many gifts with many people.
On June 27, 2009 Bobby launched his first Gospel recording CD Album entitled, “Way Back Home”! On this special occasion, recording artist Bobby Harris along with other local and surrounding guest artist presented an Evening of Praise & Worship at The Historical Saint Peters African Methodist Episcopal Church where Bobby first began his spiritual journey 47 years ago drawing a crowd exceeding 3,000. Immediately following the services, bobby was honored with a private reception given by both his parents and his older sister hosted by The Aspen hall & Tea Room in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. With nearly 200 family friends and loved ones arriving to join in fellowship and praise unto a Mighty God for all of His Blessings, Bobby successfully sold out and over 150 CD copies available on that evening! It was truly a blessing to experience the joy of the many lives touched throughout the heart-felt soul-quenching music ministry of Bobby Harris! It was most definitely a historical as well as a memorable spiritual experience that enriched and uplifted the many souls present on that evening!
A prolific songwriter and a tireless performer, Bobby’s dedication to God through Jesus Christ and music is an example to us all. The warmth of his tone is outmatched only by the fire in his heart, soul, mind and body. It’s been said that you don’t hear Bobby Harris….you feel him! With influences ranging from the late Anna Lois Davis (Lancaster, Kentucky), Mahalia Jackson, Rev. James Cleveland to Aretha Franklin, Joe Ligon of The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Larnelle Harris and Andre Crouch just to mention a few amongst many other favorable Gospel Artists, it’s easy to see where his depth and diversity are derived. Enjoy this spiritual journey with one of the great singer and songwriters of our time! Enjoy Bobby Harris!
